What are customer relations?
Customer relations is how a company manages every interaction it has with a customer, from the first enquiry through to support years later. It is broader than customer service, which handles specific problems: customer relations covers the whole relationship and who owns it.
Customer relations vs customer service
Customer relations vs customer service" and replace the body with: "Customer service is reactive and bounded, a customer has a problem, someone solves it, the ticket closes. Customer relations is the whole arc: onboarding, check-ins, renewals, complaints and referrals. Service sits inside one team; relations is owned across sales, support and account management.
Why customer relations matter to revenue
We all should understand that the customer is the person who gives us the revenue. Today there is cutthroat competition in each and every field or industry. So maintaining a healthy relationship with the people is very important and further only will be decisive for all future relations.
The question is, how to do it? There are many ways to do it. The people with a vision for their business have already implemented many tools and techniques. Right from grocery shop owners to big multinational companies, there could be from sending messages on their special days, loyalty programs, keeping them updated about new business development, door delivery wherever applicable, giving freebies etc. These are just a few nominal and basic things that are being implemented. The art of maintaining a relationship depends upon the business. Few businesses tend to send the gift to all their customers on special occasions or festivals. Few businesses make customers, and our clients feel happy by mentioning their names and photographs on websites and social media pages.
Many big companies usually do market research on how the customer is treating or thinking about products and services. They collect feedback from their own consumers and also from the consumers of competitive brands.
A satisfied customer is worth more than the revenue on their own account. They renew without being chased, and they refer people who arrive already trusting you. That will become a huge chain of customers. To do that, one should be equipped and ready. Only then will the business survive and grow.
Customer relations matters because retention is cheaper than acquisition. The customers you already have are the ones most likely to buy again, and the ones most likely to refer someone. That does not mean saying yes to everything. Set out in advance what your service includes, what it does not, and who decides on an exception. A clear boundary protects a relationship better than a promise you cannot keep.
So, it’s a clear judgement of the business owner to take the appropriate decision at the appropriate time for the appropriate customer.
